The Battlefield - The Lesson

I was back in the town.   It had grown bigger but uglier, it was somehow more industrial without being overtly industrial,  the friendliness and warmth of the people on the street had been replaced by imposing buildings and the streets were empty except for some litter and leaves from the few remaining trees....

I saw the blacksmiths and headed straight for it....

As I entered I could see the building had changed, instead of a wide open entrance I was met by a big wooden door. Upon opening the door I could see rows of tables and chairs,  this was not a blacksmiths this was a classroom.  I could see a woman dressed in what I'd consider victorian type clothes teaching,  she was scribbling on a blackboard,  every now and then she would turn and bark instructions and then turn back and continue with her scribbling....

Something had gone terribly awry.   Where was the blacksmiths?   I could tell from what I could hear her saying and what she was writing that she was teaching Ephesians 4, however there were no apostle or prophets in this version and where it was mentioned in scripture this was scimed over.

What about the prophets i said? remembering what I'd seen before.

Oh now is all I could think something's gone terribly wrong, bring back the blacksmiths.

I was ignored, suddenly I just blurted it out...

What about the prophets...?

Don't you now that the prophets and apostles build the church,  it came out rather loudly than it would have done if it had been more controlled, yet I could not contain it.   Looking scornfully at me she gestered with her head that I should sit on the last remaining free chair at the back.

Doing what I was told I sat down shacking my head.

The boy in front, who looked plainfully bored, kept looking back at me and back to the woman,  until a time he could speak and not get caught he half turned and said

this is plainly borring... pausing he turned back.

then turning again he said and dull....

Turning I could see the woman starring at him until she again turned to the blackboard... turning again he was still grinning from ear to ear.   Realising the grin was more than just about him annoying the teach but was mainly for me and how I had abruptly interrupted the lesson and annoyed the teacher.

It was if the lad was trying to say oy mister what you said he then paused as if he could read my thoughts and nodded as it to say yes it is true.

Um i said to him in a whispered voice and I could show you.

Waiting till the lesson was over  I told the boy follow me.  We left the class last and I then made my way to the tavern.  He seemed intrigued by what I had to show him and followed eagerly.  Arriving at the pub I could see that the door was barred,  I pushed against the doors and they were locked.  Turning at the sound of something scrapping on stone I saw the boy run off in the distance.

Humph I thought not quite as good an experience as last time.  I starred around the buildings they all looked different.  I then realised some of them I had never seen before.  Was this the same town.  It must be most of what I could see I had seen before then as I looked more attentively behind me I could see this large dark spire spring up out of the town, stretching almost as high as the very heavens themselves.
