The Battlefield - The Path and the Street

Jesus then lead me outside into the road.  I could see a man who looked as if He was preaching in the middle of the street close to a statue.  There were points near to the middle of the road where there were elevated steps in a semi circle the steps lead down to the center were this man stood on circular stone trying to do some teaching and least that's what it looked like.  The man was much more smartly dressed and presentable than the Great Teacher yet was dressed completely impractically to do what He did.

Without asking Jesus answered 'Yes he is teaching'

I looked at the man he had none of the authority of the Great Swordsman and rather than teach the art of sword making he preferred to talk about it rather loudly, waving his hands in the air at various points as if to communicate he knew what it was like to make swords and those gathered around him in large numbers listened intently.

Before I could say anything Jesus continued... but he's not a teacher, just because you can teach doesn't make one a teacher, instead he's a teacher in the making.  He too was one of those that like you has witnessed the Master teacher close at hand.  He may not be a teacher, let alone a great teacher but he does know how to use a sword effectively.  The Great Teacher taught him this art, he is passing what he knows on.

I could see this man was nothing like the Great Swordsmith yet he seemed to have a few battle scars from using his Sword just as the Swordsmith had.

As if Jesus could tell what I was thinking he continued

Yes and you are right he has some traits of being a teacher but that still doesn't make him a teacher the biggest deceit he could fall into is calling himself so.  He may not have fallen into this but others like him will do so.

At this point the man became very animated, raising his voice and pointing towards  and picking up a bulky bag turned abruptly and left.  Those listening to him left, most heading for the Swordsmans shop to visit the Great Teacher.

In time this man too maybe a Teacher in a Swordsmiths, but for now he does not know what to do other than what the Swordsman taught him to do with his Sword and pass that onto others.  Yes he has the marks of someone who has been fighting in the great fight but time will tell what I call him to do.  The world is full of Christians who are waving a stick at the wind,  the problem is not that there are those who do this but that some that do call themselves Teachers.  Once again just because one can teach something in one situation does not give one the authority to call yourself a Teacher.  The mark of the teacher is not the quality of the lectur but the scars of the teacher.  One must contend for the faith to start with, yet there are many who call themselves both Christians and Teachers who do not know what this means.

I paused to think to myself did this man actually have a sword.  He was very animated talking about it but no actually he didn't.  It seemed he had become so complacent he actually misplaced it or forgotten about it altogether.

I looked around many had swords at their sides, many hadn't.  Some had thrust them in the ground as they stopped to pause at various places, many left them in their sheaves others just left them lying around and I saw some had even forgot to pick them up again as they walked about the road going about their daily business and evenutally moving on.  In fact the swords seemed to be one of the common things of all the dwellers of the town whether one had a sword or not those that didn't seemed to happily talk to others about their swords with some that did not, asking to feel what it was like to hold a sword.  It seemed here it was a huge honour to have a sword even those that did not weren't embarrassed that they didn't but instead spent time learning how to acquire one.

Many in this town do what he does which is why you will see various places along this road that look very similar.  In time though men like these will stop pointing the crowds to the Swordsmiths shop and many will take it upon themselves to fulfill the job of the swordsmith until they believe it is there job and right alone to fulfill this function.    The swordsmith will then leave and this town will be a step further on in it's ruin.

Jesus paused for a second drawing a deep breath He then said, 'There are many like this in your generation.  I believe you read their books, watch them on TV and your other media and call them 'The Teachers'.
