I then became distracted by the statue that was close to us. By now the street about us was emptying and I walked over to the statue. It was of a man. Old, stout and proud I was very familiar with the image of the man and the pose and I had seen the same image many times. Before he had seemed old, fat and stumpy whereas here he looked more regal and tall and wore his age with wisdom. Perceiving my thoughts Jesus spoke.
All these images along this street are images of your past', I looked down to see the next statue of a tall lady equal in stator to the man "these are the Kings and Queens of your ancestors"
I had thought most of them only interested in power, capable of the cruelest forms of evil and of grave errors of misjudgement particularly the man who was before me. Yes you are right in many ways in that they all have made serious errors of judgement but you are wrong to dismiss them so. The errors that you judge them so are the errors of being human, indeed they are flawed because they are human. So to did they do many great things, even the man who is before you. It is easy to think he wronged many rights but also made right many wrongs in his lifetime. Indeed all these you see on this street were appointed Kings and Queens of your nation by my Farther who makes Kingdoms and then crushes them as is His will. It is easy to paint them as either good or bad monarchs when the truth is my Farther would have not allowed them to reign long given the harm you think they did your nation.
These before you carry the hurts of many past wrongs but also triumphed over many disasters in the face of adversity, they created many stumbling blocks but also the cause of many of the great things your nation has done in her history.
You are right to think the church in your nation carries a great burden because of this man but this man also carried the Church forward and for many things you have him alone to thank. All you see here were godly kings and queens. They loved your nation and lived to serve Her with their lives, through many trials even unto death. You cannot separate the greatness of your past with their rule and reign.
I looked at the man's statue and underneath read his name and inscription with the many titles he had given himself including 'Defender of the Faith' , he may have defended something but it was not the faith. Jesus injected "yes you are right to think that he didn't always defend the faith. You are right to think your nation needs to right his wrongs. But also you have to understand this town only exists because of this street and this street only exists because of these men and woman. To some extent they all lived up to the titles they gave themselves.
Come I must show more...
I was suddenly taken to a modern museum or art gallery and i could see pictures of the same monarchs in the same poses but in paintings. There were various galleries that were very busy as gallery experts took touring parties around.
Jesus spoke "Every one had come to admire the art, yet no-one wants to really learn about the paintings and no-one hear wants to teach anyone to become painters themselves."
Come with me there is something I must show we. We made our way to a winding stair and made our way down until we came to a dark and dingy basement.
Here is located all the pictures that my people didn't want to finish. Here are housed the pictures that either no-one wanted to draw or no-one wanted to see. I looked around which was hard in itself as there was little light. The room seemed deep down in the belly of the museaum there were no windows and there was the odd light coming from candles attached to the walls that had been lit but these lights were irregular. We walked past many canvases, some were covered, some had barely been started, some had been started but in their current state didn't look very good. We came to a man who was painting a picture of an ordinary man.
Jesus then began to speak...
My people have painted many pictures. Pictures of myself and other saints, pictures of famous people in your history like in the galleries upstairs. These all have one thing in common they are counterfeits of the real people and only reflect what the painters see in them. These whole galleries are physical recollections on both your nations history and church history most of which is incorrect and the rest is just flawed.
I wondered why the statues I had seen although of a similar likeness to the images I had seen portrayed these great men and women in a different light. Take myself for instance, many great historians have replicated images of myself yet if you actually look at me you'll understand they are not images of me. In fact I barely recognise myself in most of them.
I looked at the man who was painting in the basement he was painting a picture of an ordinary man....
Jesus continued. The great painters such as Picasso and Van Gogh started painting ordinary objects of every day life such as flowers, fruit. Portraits were often deliberately skewed to show only those parts that painter wanted to paint which is where you now have your many forms of painting from.
