The Battlefield - The Tower

I was standing in front of a massive tower... it was ancient and awe inspiring - it was massive.   At it's base it was a large curved building.  In the middle was a grand entrance going out from one side it curved round until it meet the over side of the entrance.  It was so large it looked flat,  much like looking at the earth from close up,  you could not tell it  was curved.  But it shot up and my how it shot it up.  Looking up it just kept going up and up until it seemed like it literally met the heavens and disappeared.  Looking down I was standing on large slabs of stone.   Rather than squares of stone that had been quarried and moved here they seemed to be hewn out of the very rock that was buried in the earth beneath my feet.  There were no gaps or lines in the stone but they had been carved perfectly as if made by the greatest stone builder who ever lived.

The stairs narrowed as I climbed up upon reaching the top of the stairs I could see two giant slabs of stone that formed an entrance.  Angels seven on each side stood on each of the seven steps each had a long trumpet in their hands and they waited patiently as if something were about to happen.

The tower looked like it had been built in ancient times, even on the day the earth was created.  The stone had an ancient cold feeling about it that brought a fear within me to the surface.  I turned around considering whether I should walk back the way I came.  I could see a bustling market town.  Thousand upon thousand of people busying themselves buying, selling and getting.  I could see women dressed in all sorts of clothing and fashions.   Many seemed to have wicker  baskets in their hands, many near to full, some half full, others empty.  They all wore scarves that pulled back their hair.   Children were running, scurrying around their feet playing with each other as Market stalls, who seemed to be fully maned by men sold goods.  Many tried to sell goods to other market men but few would do anything than sell.

I then heard a noise as the trumpeter on the first step blew his trumpet.   Followed by the second,  then by the third until the final trumpet was sounded.  Each trumpeter sounded a different note but as they all played together you could make out the clear notes of a specific song that sung out like an anthem.  It sounder rather grand.  Too grand!

All stopped.   Women, children and men all stopped what they were doing,  everyone froze.  Looking up their vision was now fixed on me.

What should I do?   With my waist twisted I was looking back as though that's what my head wanted to do, turn back.  My legs on the other hand hadn't moved and were still positioned as if I should continue my walk up the stairs and through the gateway.

The trumpeters notes played for what felt like eternity.  I was too embarrassed at that point to turn back with thousands upon thousands starring at me.  My head turned back facing forwards, my shame not allowing me to take any notice of the embarrassment I was in.  Turning I could feel the looks of thousands burning right through the back of my head.  Still there was some doubt in my head whether I should continue forward.  My legs however had already decided where they were going and it seemed odd they had forgotten to listen to my head as to what to do.  There was now a battle beginning to rage inside me.  No matter there was a big stone entrance in front of me guarded by two large burly angels.   There was no way I was moving that.   Given there was no doorbell I was relieved to think I could turn back as I had no place to go however before anyone could tell my legs this the two angels pushed the giant doors back.  Both doors creaked as both angels with all their might pushed them fully back there was no excuse not to continue other than pure fear which my head started telling me was good enough to make this more than just a thought however my legs were still not listening and I continued walking,  both angels bowing low as I passed them by.
